Heinonen, Pentti Olavi
1932-2017

Pentti Olavi Heinonen passed away at the age of 85 in Rocky Mountain House.
He is predeceased by his wife Elsa in 1991 and eleven brothers and sisters.
Pentti is survived by his daughter Diana, his brother Ahti in Edmonton, his brother Esa in Sweden, two sister-in-law’s Mirja and Marjatta in Edmonton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Edmonton, Sudbury, Ontario, Finland and Sweden.
Pentti was born January 24, 1932 to Aino and Akseli Heinonen in Oulu, Finland. He was one of fourteen children.
While a young man, Pentti moved to Canada where he met his wife Elsa at a Finnish dance. They were married on April 20, 1957.
They moved to Hinton where Pentti worked at the pulp mill. Their daughter Diana was born to them during this time.
The family moved to Edmonton where he worked at a few different jobs for the city of Edmonton. Pentti then attended NAIT to study forestry.
In Edmonton, Pentti acquired a new family member of a beautiful white miniature poodle named Fluffy who was a Christmas gift for his daughter Diana. Fluffy was a member of the family for ten years.
Pentti worked as a forest technician for Canfor in Chetwynd, B.C., for Revelstoke, in Rocky Mountain House and for Weyerhaeuser in Drayton Valley.
In his retirement Pentti enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, word search puzzles, playing cribbage at the Pioneer Center and watching game shows.
Pentti also enjoyed the company of his faithful companion Sopo, a beautiful apricot miniature poodle for fifteen years.
Pentti was a kind and caring man with a gentleness and a keen sense of humor.
At his request a funeral was not held. Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium.
