Obituary

Douglas Willmont Cleaver
March 15th, 1934 - August 19, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our most beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Cousin, Douglas “Doug” Cleaver. Doug passed away peacefully at the Sundre Hospital, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 85.

Doug was born in Norfolk County, Manitoba, on March 15, 1934. At the young age of 16, Doug headed west and started many odd jobs until finding his life long career as a welder. Doug met his future bride, Daleen Blair, at Condor Alberta. The two were married on September 30, 1961. They lived in Calgary, Alberta, where Doug owned and operated D.J. Welding. It was in Calgary where his children, Kerry, Lana and Candice were all born. Doug wanted to move his children away from the big city and decided to move to an acreage just outside of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Doug was a quiet, humble man, who enjoyed gardening, playing guitar, fishing and playing cards with family and friends. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Daleen Cleaver; children: Kerry (Holly) Cleaver, Lana (Tim) Young, Candice (Kevin) Campbell; grandchildren: Sara (Richard) Botham, Abby (Matt) Bargholz, Kristi (Wendall) Mason, T.J. (Brooke) Young, Austin Campbell, Brady Campbell, Wyatt Campbell, Dylan Campbell; his great-grandchildren: Emily, Hayley, Bentley, Maverick, Bronwyn and Bauer; brothers: Gerald (June) Cleaver and Donald Cleaver; also, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents: Harold Herbert Cleaver and Martha Cleaver; brothers: Harold Cleaver and Norman Cleaver.

As per Doug’s wishes there will be no Memorial Service. His wish is to be inurned in a private family service. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium.
For those who are wishing to make a memorial contribution in Doug’s name they may do so through the Canadian Cancer Society.
