Obituary

Dorthy E. Sands Nov. 17, 1934 – Feb. 17, 2018
With broken hearts we are sad to announce the passing of Dorthy Sands on Feb. 17, 2018, in the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre at the age of 83 years.
Dorthy was born in Kevisville, Alta., on Nov. 17, 1934, to parents Ione and Bill Barnes. In 1952 she met the love of her life, Chester, and they were married in December of 1955. She resided in the Oras area up until her passing. Dorthy enjoyed many years accompanying and supporting Chester in his many wilderness endeavors. Whether it involved trapping or outfitting in the West Country or maintaining the farm, Dorthy was guaranteed to be there contributing. Later in life, Dorthy enjoyed many travel adventures with Chester and family, at one point spending many months touring North America by motorhome, fulfilling her dreams and exploring many places that she always wanted to see. She was full of surprises. Whether it was a sudden stop at an antique shop or garage sale while on a cross-country tour or going on Pokémon hunts, we were always guaranteed some unexpected fun and many laughs. She had a fantastic sense of humour and never ceased to surprise anyone with her many unexpected antics and stories. Dorthy had many hobbies and thoroughly enjoyed displaying her salt and pepper shaker collection and working in her yard with her flowers. Above all, she loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband Chester; daughter Wendy Watson and son Stacy (Connie) Sands; grandchildren: Carla (Georges) Watson, Dustin Watson, Brittany (Bryn), Ashley (Marcel), and Ryan Sands; and great-grandchildren: Liam, Etienne, Elayna, Kylie and Aalayla.
Dorthy was predeceased by her parents Ione and Bill Barnes; brothers Frank, Willie, Jim and Chuck; sisters Violet and Kathy; and numerous extended family members.

The interment service for the late Dorthy Sands will take place in the Garth Cemetery on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at 1 p.m.
The Celebration of her Life will be held from the Lou Soppit Community Centre at 2 p.m.

For those wishing to make a memorial donation, they may be made in Dorthy’s name to the Dialysis Unit at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
