Obituary

Gabler, Richard Marcus
1938~2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that the Gabler families announce the passing of their brother, uncle and true friend Richard Gabler.
Richard was born June 29, 1938 in Red Deer, Alberta to Annie (Spence) and Marcus Gabler, the eldest of four children. Richard went to school in the Strachan District, attending high school in Rocky Mountain House. Richard worked in some of his Dad’s lumber camps, falling and skidding trees at a young age. Finishing school he worked on pipelines, seismic teams and returned to the family farm after his father’s passing in 1965.
Richard loved the farm, the animals and helping neighboring farmer friends with their cows. Richard worked on building the farm that his grandfather George Gabler started in 1906.
Richard also enjoyed a good debate, on many topics. He found himself on many boards: cattle commissions, was the leader of his district of the MD of Clearwater for six years, on many agriculture ways and equipment, and also new ways to treat and Ai cattle. He loved new ideas, was a great teacher to whoever wanted to ask and learn. Richard was a real rock to his niece Kelly. They farmed together until Richard lost his eyesight in 2012 and could no longer run behind the cows due to his damaged lungs. Richard enjoyed live even when life got a little tough.
Richard has been through so much in the last five years- his family and friends are so proud of him, he is now free from pain and is once again reunited with his parents.
Richard was predeceased by his parents Annie (Spence) and Marcus Gabler, his sister Phyllis Anne Way and his great nephew Robert Lavern Croteau.
Richard is survived by his brothers Ronald (Marlene), niece Sheila (David) and Robert (Heather) niece Anita (Gordon) Croteau, nephews Terry and Mark Smith and his shadow and niece Kelly and her daughter/great niece Lexis.
Uncle you will be loved, never forgotten and will always be in our hearts.

A Funeral Service for Richard will be held at the Rocky Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at the Prairie Creek Cemetery.
