Brown, Carol Frances

Carol Frances Brown passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2017 with her cherished family by her side, after a 7 year battle with cancer.
Carol was born August 30, 1943 at Galahad, Alberta to parents Bernadine and Cleo Fankhanel, the third of 10 children. She was also raised on the farm in the Bashaw area and after graduation moved to Calgary to work for Pacific Petroleum. It was here that Carol and Jim Brown fell in love and were married on June 20, 1964. They were blessed with 3 children Stephen, Shauna and Sam (Sandra). Soon after Sam’s birth they sold out and moved to Cline River…West of Nordegg to build and operate David Thompson Resort with family Gloria and Ken Brown. It was here that Carol and Jim raised their family and as pioneers of the West Country worked hard building the resort. This was a family affair, both sides of the family helped where necessary, where everyone worked long days and gathered around the campfire at night.
In 1986 Jim and Carol sold their shares to partners Gloria and Ken Brown and moved to Rocky Mountain House. It was here in Rocky that Carol formed many lasting friendships, joining several clubs like the gardening club, the quilting club and Oil Wives where she received her 25 year membership on September 30, 2017. It was here that dear and cherished friendships were built either at conventions, campouts or around the quilting table. Once Jim retired they would spend their winters in Yuma with friends and family and their summers at Gull Lake with more friends and family. Carol was an expert quilter and pretty darn good on the golf course too!
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Cleo and Bernadine Fankhanel, sisters Jeannette, Gloria and Vicki.
She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 53 years Jim, son Stephan (Sandra), daughters Shauna (Ken Hogberg) and Sam (Mark Hallock), 7 grandchildren: James, Andy, Chantelle, Adam, Sydney, Jessie and Brandon; 3.5 Great grandchildren: Kayden, Brycen, Emma and the new little Benz baby due very soon. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

A celebration of Carol’s life and mass will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (5208-53 Ave) Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Carol’s name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Keith & Sandra :
I was so saddened to learn of Carol passing. Sandra and I send our sincere condolences to Jim and the Family.

I have special memories of Carol when we visited as children. She often played games with Vicki and I. As an adult, I loved golfing with, and against Carol. She was a sweet and loving Lady.

I am so sorry we will not be able to attend the service.

Lots of LOVE Keith and Sandra.
