McArthur, Charles Douglas
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Douglas McArthur. Doug passed away January 1st at the age of 60 years at the Rocky Mtn. House Health Centre, with loved ones by his side. He was born January 17th, 1957 in Rocky Mountain House to Charles (Chuck) and Gladys McArthur.
He grew up in the Dovercourt Area, working on his parent’s farm, and attended the Caroline School. His childhood and teen years were spent with his many cousins who lived in the community.
Doug’s love of operating equipment started at a very young age, he was operating the farm equipment, backhoe, and anything else his Dad would allow him to run at the age of 12.
During the winter months, he operated his Dad’s sanding truck for the MD, taking his young daughter, Krysten with him. She would spend the time telling Dad stories, playing with toys, when she got tired she would curl up in a blanket on the floor. She was always right there being Dad’s little helper, if Doug was repairing equipment, she’d be right in there with both hands and when they were done she’d be covered from head to toe with grease and oil, and a big smile on her face.
In 1992, Doug met Darlene and moved to the Hardindell area to begin their life together. In 1995, Doug and Darlene started DDR Excavating, with their first job, Doug operating a loader on the rig, moving with that rig all over Alberta. After 3 years of never being home, they purchased their first steam truck, adding DDR Steam & Pressure Washing to the parent company. Doug & Darlene worked together through the good and bad times to build the company into what it is today. Though life was very busy, Doug still took the time to have fun with the kids, grandkids and employees, whether it was water fights or everyone running for cover when Doug got a hold of his paintball gun.
Doug would have bicycle races with Jazmin, whom he nicknamed “Toot”, racing around the house, with Doug taking a shortcut to win, but Jazmin soon caught on to that. He would tell her and her friends how he competed in the Olympics as a downhill skier, and they believed him. He taught his Toot how to operate every piece of equipment that DDR owned.
Some of Doug’s most enjoyable times were spent with our children, grandchildren and friends whether it be building a full-sized skating rink, wiener roasts, day long adventures on side x sides, camping, or days on the pontoon boat with Doug trying to flip whomever was on the tubes into the water, to the long hours spent at night working on the trucks and equipment with the DDR employees, so that they were ready for work the next day.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, Chuck and Gladys McArthur, sisters, Debbie McArthur and Bernice Clayton.
Doug will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his spouse of 25 years, Darlene McMillan, daughters; Krysten (Aaron) Mabbutt their children: Adley and Isabelle; Jazmin (Chad) Thomson their children: Tanner, Logan, Kya and Brody Charles; step children Kim McMillan her children: Kyara , Apryl and Jayden (Cassidy) their children: Lynden and Mason and Ryan (Angela) McMillan their children: Kendra, Joshua and James.
As per Doug’s request, a funeral service will not be held. Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

Donations may be made in Charles’s name to the Rocky Mtn. House Health Centre to purchase an I-Stat Machine or to STARS.
