Obituary

Salmon, Irene Etta
1924 ~ 2017
On December 31, 2017, Irene Etta (Allen) Salmon passed away at the Rocky Mountain House Clearwater Centre. Irene was born May 8, 1924, in Rocky Mountain House to John (Jack) and Elvera Allen. She was one of seven children: William, Donald, Cameron, Clifford, Irene, Alice and Agnes. During Irene’s childhood she lived several years with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, who she remembered fondly all her life. Irene went to school in Garth and Rocky Mountain House. One of her first jobs was cooking in her father’s lumber camp. During this time she met her future husband Harry Salmon. On May 6, 1943, Irene and Harry were united in marriage. They were married for 58 years.
Irene is survived by seven children: Anetha (Bob) Glover, Arthur, Ken, Lloyd (Janet), Judy (Mel) Lougheed, Terry (Dennis) Gray and Tina (Myles) Wasik, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Harry, her parents, all of her siblings, three grand-daughters and one great-grandson.
Irene spent her married life raising her family. Her children have fond memories of trips to Crimson Lake for swimming lessons, holiday camping trips, berry picking and her support at sporting events. She taught us all how to cook, bake, sew, quilt, knit, darn, garden and keep house; life skills we are very grateful for. She spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren and they have fond memories of baking and having tea with grandma. Irene also loved to paint, research family history and she kept a journal most of her life.
The last few years of Irene’s life she was lovingly cared for by Rose, Jamee, Tess, Christine, Evlan, Elyn, Antonia, Cherry and Girlie.
At Irene’s request a private family service will be held. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Stars Air Ambulance.

Condolences

Rhonda Hamilton McPhail:
My thoughts are with you all at this time. I have the best memories of playing at the Salmon house. I have some pretty good memories of maybe some neighbourhood kids raiding that wonderful garden and I am very thankful for that convenient retaining wall! Irene lived a wonderful long life and you should all be very proud of what she instilled in you all. Your sadness now will one day turn to happiness of a life well lived. I will remember her with love.
Wayne & Sharyn:
