Obituary

GEESCHE (GAYE) TENSEN (nee Hornstra)
1923 - 2020
On January 24, 2020 we said goodbye to our kind, loving Mother and Oma, as she passed away peacefully at the Rocky Mountain House Hospital at the age of 96 1/2. She was born on May 16, 1923, the first child and daughter to Stoffel & Hendrikje Hornstra in Lemmer, Frieslan, The Netherlands. She was followed by 5 sisters and 2 brothers. She met the love of her life Klaas Tensen and they were married June 7, 1951. Two years after their marriage, they followed Klaas' brothers and immigrated to Red Deer, Alberta in 1953. After 10 years, the family moved from Red Deer to various places in B.C. before returning to Rocky Mountain House to be near family in 2003. Mom was a nurse for a short time in The Netherlands, and then a full-time home-maker once her family came along. She was very active in her church and volunteered her time. She also did the bookkeeping for their trucking business. She very much enjoyed travelling, baking, knitting and gardening. Mom and Dad had 56 wonderful years together, before his passing in 2007. Mom and Dad raised four sons: Chris (Regan) Tensen, Harley Tensen, Ron Tensen and Tim (Cynthia) Tensen, and 6 grandchildren: Jolene (Dwayne) Nicolay, Travis Tensen, Carley Tensen, Devin Tensen, Shayanne Tensen, and Kyle Tensen and four great grandchildren.
Gaye was predeceased by her parents, husband, and 4 siblings.

Without a doubt, we can say she had a full and love-filled life. She loved her Lord God and is now resting safely in his arms. How great thou art.

A celebration of Gaye’s life will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:30pm.
