Gant, Louis Eldon
May 21, 1944 - July 5, 2019
It is with saddened hearts that we are saying goodbye to our loving husband, father and grandfather Louis Eldon Gant on July 5, 2019 after several years battling cancer. Eldon was born May 21, 1944 in Eckville, AB to John and Helen Gant. He was the second of 4 children.

Eldon met the love of his life, Patty, in Rocky and was married on November 20, 1970. Soon after, they moved to Coquitlam where their first son, Jason, was born in 1971. They later moved to Campbell River before coming back to Rocky in 1974 to raise their family. A second son, Kevin, was born in Rocky in 1978.

Eldon had a number of occupations including work in the logging industry and oilfield construction, and he started his own company in 1977. Upon "semi-retirement", he enjoyed farming and trucking through 2018. Eldon had a passion for his family, his cows, cars, quadding and camping, and riding his Harley.

Eldon is survived by his loving wife Patty; sons: Jason and Kevin (Heather); grandchildren: James, Charlie, William, and Sarah. He also leaves behind his siblings: Elaine Speight (Bill) of Rocky, Del of Caroline, and Deborah of Portland, Oregon as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Eldon was predeceased by his Dad, John, his Mom, Helen, and many aunts and uncles who he cherished dearly.

A Celebration of Eldon’s life will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Rocky Mountain House on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

Memorial donations in Eldon’s name may be made to the Rocky Mountain House Hospital Palliative Care Unit or Compassionate Care Hospice Society, Rocky Mountain House.

Sanford Barker:
I had the pleasure of knowing Eldon from the time he attended Caroline School where he was my classmate. I remember him as a very cheerful and polite person right from the start, he was a good sportsman in baseball and other sports activities and always enthusiastic. As years went by it seemed like we all went different directions, but mostly oilfield related, where I would run into him on many occasions where he was operating his Caterpillar D6D building a reserve pit,or a road into a location, or maybe at the truck stop where we had lunch together. I remember when the big thing was having a nice car, and he had a NICE one; a 1964 Falcon Sprint, 2 door hardtop with a 289 CI V/8 and a 4 speed stick shift, the envy of many. Eldon was always generous and always willing to help anyone and on a time, or two when my car was broke down would say, 'hey I'm going to the dance, jump in,' with a big grin. Now I am saddened to hear that he is gone, but he left the legacy of a true gentleman and a fine friend that won't be forgotten. R.I.P. mi amigo Eldon.
Joanne & Norm Long:
It is with great sorrow that I learn of the passing of Eldon Gant and send our sincerest condolences to his wife, Patty & all her Family members, Elaine & Bill Speight & all their Families, as well as all the other extended Family members. Our thoughts & prayers are with each & every one of you at this very sad time. May the cherished memories your loved one has left with you be forever remembered & of great comfort to you in easing your pain & sorrows of your loss.
The years that have passed since I first got to know Eldon & his then immediate Family, have now become quite large in numbers & at one time in this past, a Family member of mine was married to a cousin of Eldon's. In my memories of the past associations with he & his Family I recall musical encounters during the great times we were able to visit & sing many good old time songs & I very much miss singing these old songs with others!!
May peace be with each & every one of you during this very difficult time.
Corey and Marie Cermak:

Louis & Patty ,are the two people that I could have full trust in . They supported me like the wonderful people they are , at my most difficult time in my life . They are two wonderful people .Louis was a great man , and he was a talented musician ,I spent many a camping night around the fire watching him play the violin , and singing some of the old country songs he loved . This couple ,welcomed you into their home , and always had a meal for you.And a toddy or two. They made you feel that you were family , and that you mattered . Louis , will be sorely missed , and remembered with Love .

Karen Willms (Skoreiko):
I was so saddened to hear of Eldons passing. Eldon was six years older than me and as kids, six years seemed an enormous gap. I learned the words to so many gospel songs from listening to Uncle Johnny, Elaine and Eldon when they entertained us at family functions. My sister (Marlene) and I would sit on the floor mesmerized. I have thought of the whole family many, many times throughout the years when I would hear On The Wings of A Dove, or Little Brown Church In The Valley.

I am sorry that I will not be at the funeral but I will be thinking of all of you. My sincerest condolences.
Stewart Stephanson - Rocky Mtn House:
I’m surprised and saddened to see here the passing of Eldon. We first met, early 60’s when his parents purchased the old
“Kessel” farm close to my parents farm in the Markerville district. In summer of “66” when I was in Rocky with Forest Service,
I’d bump into Eldon downtown in the evenings, I jump in his sporty 2- door hard top to drag Main Street with him. All three blocks. ( the line up of cars included guys with names like, Beck, Salmon, Frisky, Bowerman and others I cannot recall at moment. ) Over the years, brief chats mostly, in the stores or at community events. The most recent visit, was just few years back, sitting together at park on Canada Day. We covered a lot of ground about our lives over the years.
My condolences to all of Eldons family. I’m committed to a appointment in Edmonton on day of the service, or I would be in attendance.
