Obituary

Ruth Wedman
November 14, 1935 – October 17, 2017
Edith Eleonor Ruth Wedman passed away at 81 years of age at the Lacombe Continuing Care Centre on October 17, 2017.
She was born November 14, 1935 in Edmonton, Alberta to German immigrants Erwin and Martha Becker and proved to be a curious and creative child, traits that she carried through her life. An avid reader she surrounded herself with books and when not reading she could be found creating poems and stories for all to enjoy.
In January 1953 she married Ernest Wedman and together they raised their five children, through life’s adventures. An avid gardener, Ruth was proud of the tons of vegetables, fruits and berries she put away for the family to enjoy during the cold winter months. Chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits, pigs, and cattle kept the freezer stocked with home grown goodness while horses and a menagerie of pets kept things lively for the growing family. Cats were her favorites and a new batch of kittens always had a special place in her heart.
In 1976 they bought the farm out by Struble Lake and the Rocky Mountain House area became their home. Echo Valley Ranch with Prairie Creek running through it, deer in the meadow and the constant bird songs was Ruth’s idea of paradise on earth.
Her family will sorely miss her wisdom, positive perspective on life’s hurdles and joy in the moments big and small that make for a life well-lived.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Ernie Wedman, son-in-law Kent Maxwell, daughter in-law Elsie Wedman, grandsons Donovan Frost and Alex Wedman.
She leaves a legacy of special memories for her children: Linda Wedman (Terry Frost), Gerry Wedman, Wanda Cowley (Edwin), Don Wedman (Karen) and Laurie Wedman; 14 grandchildren - Christine Frost Regnier (David), Kellen Frost (Denise), Tanis Speers (Pat), Levi Wedman (Whitney), Shauna Filtz (Tim), Rae Donnellan (Jason), Matthew Cowley (Lisa), Eric Wedman, Janel Wedman, Shannon Stolte (Colin), Jennifer Sheather (Rob), Jason Wedman, Robin Andrews (Matt), Amanda Van der Linden (Erik); and 18 great grandchildren – Sophie and Henry Regnier, Kendra and Hannah Wedman, Connor Filtz, Jono and Abby Donnellan, Braden Wedman, Kian Wedman, Kiaya, Jaron, Lander and John Sheather, Presley and Max Andrews, Kaius, Yara and Taylem Van der Linden.
As per her wishes no service will be held.
A private family gathering will celebrate her life at a later date.
Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House.
If friends or family wish memorial donations in Ruth’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society or charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.

Condolences

Frank and Irene Kenyon:
So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. We have great memories of your Dad and Mom and our many visits to their home on the farm and finally to the Rocky Mountain farm. Never a dull moment in that household and we would always leave with some of her delicious preserves.
We will miss those special times and those warm visits with your Mom and Dad.
Our sympathy to your family at this sad time.
Kathleen Moon:
My sympathy and condolences to the Wedman family.

I will really miss my best friend since grade seven. So many memories of our times together for the
last 68 years.. Ruth was a kind giving person. She always had a surprise gift bag for us to take home after our visits.
I will so miss those fun visits and walking around her little piece of heaven.

The Moon family
Janet Besler:
I have such fond memories of Ruth when they lived on the acreage across the road from my sister, Connie. As a child I shall recall how she seemed sincerely interested in my life and she loved cats as much as I did. There was always joy in the Wedman house and other kids to play with. I will always remember this delightful closet she hand made for my Barbie doll. A most thoughtful action given she has a busy life with her own children to take care of. Rest in peace to a beautiful soul. She shall be missed.
Connie Bjonson:

My childhood wouldn't have been the same with out my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Ernie. I remember countless trips out to the farm every summer, eating fresh beans from the garden, catching my first fish at the lake, camp fires with my cousins. All of it is due to the love and compassion I received from my great Aunt Ruth and great Uncle Ernie.
Betty:
