Obituary

Smith, Douglas “Doug’ Brian
1948 -2019
It is with heavy saddened hearts we announce the passing of Douglas “Doug” Brian Smith on June 17, 2019. Doug was born April 22, 1948 in Meskanaw, SK to Rose and James Smith. He was the oldest of 7 children.
Doug met the love of his life, Marie (Relland) in 1968, in Eldersley, Sask. In April 1971, they were married and moved to Rocky Mountain House, AB that August. While in Rocky Mountain House, they grew their family: a son Brian and a daughter Therese.
Doug worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver and worked for Chevallier’s, Rollier’s before opening his own business “Doug Smith and Son Contruction Ltd.” After he “semi-retired,” Doug worked for Prentice Creek Construction and enjoyed his farming life. Doug’s real joy was found in the field with his cows, spending time with his children and grandchildren – especially going to chuckwagon races, and having coffee with his friends.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Marie, son Brian (Lori Pratt), daughter Therese (Todd) Maupin, grandchildren: Cody Maupin, Austin (Joe Greenwood) Maupin, step grandchildren: Carly, Kimberly, and Michelle, and a great grandson Denver Maupin. He also leaves behind his Mother, Rose Smith of Delisle, SK; siblings: Patricia Setter of Lloydminister, AB, Carol (Richard) Radford of Delisle, SK, Clifford (Cheryl) Smith of Cold Lake, AB, Margie (Ron) Colburn of Delisle, SK, and Fay (Leonard) Mooney of Delisle, SK; in-laws: Louise and Ray Myshchyshyn, Marguerite and Richard Mier, Lorette and Bob Gardner, Florence and Frances Gress; Ernest and Meryl Campbell and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug is predeceased by his Dad, James Smith; sister Diane Mooney; Mother and Father in-law Madeleine and Louis Relland; his sister in-law Jean Relland and brother-in-law Ken Setter.

A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Doug’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Compassionate Care Hospice Society.
