Obituary

DeBruyn, John Godfried
We regret to say that John Godfried DeBruyn passed on very suddenly to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 11, 2019 in Rocky Mtn. House.
John was born on Nov 29, 1958 to Arie & Dien DeBruyn in Rocky Mtn. House, AB. John grew up on the farm and after graduation worked a few years on the rigs. Being a rig hand proved to be too rough of a lifestyle for John. After asking Karen to be his wife, he settled on the family dairy farm, and there he worked for his Dad. They were blessed with three lovely daughters Terah, Deanna and Carmen. The farm was bought off of his Dad in 1984. There he continued to grow and improve the farm. Beef cattle were added to the equation and the farm became officially DeBruyn Cattle Co. ltd. John loved his job so much and thought of 16 hour days as a terrific non-stop vacation. He loved to share the excitement with friends and family. There were many special jobs to share with the girls as well as nieces and nephews. In April 2008 their daughter Deanna and husband Hendri became their partners and brought four daughters along. Later two sons were added to their family. Terah and her husband Siemen farm nearby and also have three daughters. All of these nine grandchildren were John's joy beyond measure. John took on teaching the grandchildren the true value of hard work and determination as a great privilege and pleasure. Their youngest daughter Carmen was also a very big part of John's life. She lives on the farm and has worked side by side with him for the past four years. He really encouraged her to pursue her creativity and artistic flare. He went to great lengths to make this happen as he got her to paint a mural covering the entire wall of his shop displaying his love for classic Chevys. Times John and Karen left the farms were spent visiting family and friends or to take in a classic car show/ swap meet. He packed his 60 years with lots of valuable non-stop activity. There was never a dull moment spent with John. We all feel he was taken too soon, but take comfort in the knowledge of God's grace and mercy which John faithfully passed on to the following generations.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 38 years, Karen DeBruyn; children Terah (Siemen) VanderMeer, Deanna (Hendri) Hondebrink and Carmen DeBruyn; grandchildren Esther, Hailey, Natalie, Lorraine, Wyatt, James Hondebrink, and Whitney, Rosalynn, Vanessa VanderMeer; brothers Peter (Trudy) DeBruyn, Jim (Margo) deBruyn, sister-in-law Wendy DeBruyn; sisters Valerie (Barry) Beukema, Marjorie (Mike) VanVugt, Jackie DeBruyn, Tammy (Dean) Sauder; brother and sister-in-laws (Ken) Trudy Salomons, (Barrie) Margaret Bouwman, (Don) Linda Routley, (Byron) Edith Sutela, John (Nancy) OpdenDries, (Scott) Rose Campbell, (Ken) Joyce Sewell, Dave (Sherri) OpdenDries; as well as Aunts, Uncles; cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, Arie and Dien DeBruyn; George and Emmy OpdenDries, Chris DeBruyn, Lynn DeBruyn, Doreen Toews and Jonathan Konynenbelt.
A Memorial Service for John will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Covenant CRC in Rocky Mtn. House at 2:00 pm. Rocky Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorial donations can be made in memory of John to the Rocky Christian School Society.
